What's Your Anchor

robertolugo73

Although we spend our days consumed with what we have to accomplish (our jobs, children, tasks or chores, etc.), there’s always an opportunity to experience our true Self. Even if we are “on task”, whether it be at home, at work, at the gym, commuting, etc., the fact is, there are pockets of time where the “reality” of everyday life disappears, and we are aware of the deepest part of ourselves. And I would say that most are probably not aware of it.

We attribute any moment where we experience love, joy, gratitude, delight, and peace to the object of our attention, rather than a recognition of the space from which they emanate.

That space within us, the pristine space that exists before language arises, is vast, limitless in fact, made up of all we as human beings strive to experience on a daily and constant basis. Its very fabric is what we all dream of. I have yet to meet the human being who intentionally seeks to be angry, frustrated, anxious, depressed or despondent. Generally, when asked, what people want to experience in life is peace, joy, security, serenity, wisdom, and love. I call those anchors.

What is an anchor? An anchor is defined as a heavy object attached to a cable or chain and used to moor a ship to the sea bottom.

When I say anchor, I am referring to experiences that immediately pull us deep within and hold us fast, to that experience. It has the capacity to arrest the wonderings of our mind and hold it steady, so that we can see beyond the veil of our everyday concerns.

I recognize the desire to experience the divine, our purpose. And the experiences of love, joy, peace, etc., our anchors, that which drops our awareness down into the depths of the ocean of our existence to stop our forward (or backward) motion so we can relish the deliciousness of that space. Ecstasy dwells there. So does love. So does contentment. So does true peace.

What is your anchor?

Is it the love you feel when you look at your child or furred family member? Is it the contentment you experience when you look at your partner or spouse as they rouse from sleep? Or is it the innate pride you experience at accomplishing a feat or task you set for yourself?

Distinguish what your anchors are and once you do, dive into them intentionally, with enthusiasm and anticipation. Make a clarion call for action to discover that extraordinary space for yourself. It will open up wondrous doors for you and your life.
